At the High-Angle battery Raphael Daden will be creating poignant and thought provoking quotes about war-and defence. He will use famous quotes and ones that he has developed during his research time on Portland Island. Other rooms within the battery will also have quotes form Skylark Durston a prolific poet and skilled stonemason from Portland.
He will be using both tunnels to create a dialogue and discussion about the need for defence and the pitfalls of war. The artworks will be made from an array of colourful EL wire, which is similar to neon light. The designs will be influenced from the idea of a wreath and the artworks will be laid down, hung, suspended and incorporated into the fabric of these dark and eerie tunnels.
b-side will return to the Isle of Portland this September, showcasing the very best in contemporary art made in response to this beautiful and intriguing island. Extraordinary, playful, witty and challenging our programme emerges from conversations between artists, producers and the residents of Portland.
