The theme OUTSIDE/INSIDE, and the floor level 3 theme, Fresh Water & River Banks will relate to different aspects of the Essex landscape, my ideas have been to work with the Essex landscape by casting Sea Patterns. These will be created by making plaster casts of different patterns from the seabed of the surrounding coastline of essex. The Casts will be taken back to the studio and silicon moulds made and re-cast in translucent resin. These will be constructed into frames and illuminated using LED lighting. The light will gradually change slowly through a spectrum of colours relating to the sea, giving the work a continuous atmosphere of movement and colour. When a person is viewing the Sea Patterns within the Hospital, they can take a moment to reflect and escape from their present situation and the pressures of modern day life, and be distracted by the beauty of the sea’s landscape. This will help people feel ‘more at home’ while in the hospital, by relating the inside of the hospital to the surrounding landscape and to its position within the locality of Chelmsford and Essex In the walkways of the hospital I will be producing 5 photo light box based works, these will be around 1.5m long x 150mm in height. They will have a series of up to 10-15 images in each light box. the photos will be of the Essex landscape based around the rivers and banks. I will be looking at the way light moves around and reflects on water and riverbanks of this area.
