Horizon Line transforms the former chapel at Weston-super-Mare’s main hospital into a place of quiet refuge. Now known as The Sanctuary, the space is open to all people, of all faiths, offering a moment of calm within a clinical environment.
Inspired by nature, the sea, and the shifting patterns formed where water meets sand, the installation creates a softly lit atmosphere designed for reflection, stillness, and peace. The space unfolds gently, encouraging visitors to slow down, breathe, and be present.
At the heart of the work is the horizon line, a continuous visual thread that runs throughout the room. It guides you as you enter and envelops you as you sit, subtly orienting the body and the mind within the space.
The horizon—where sea meets sky—is a powerful symbol of contemplation and transition: a threshold where the sun sinks and day gives way to dusk. The photographs, taken around the Weston-super-Mare coastline, draw these elements of the surrounding landscape into the interior, creating a quiet dialogue between the outside world and this place of sanctuary.
